The Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) held its annual meeting from October 9th to 12th in Grapevine, Texas. SMSNA leads the field of sexual medicine internationally and is especially recognized for its leadership in penile implant surgeries
The SMSNA invited Dr. Park to present lectures on inflatable penile prosthesis in out-patient setting and join as a panel for genital cosmetics discussion, especially about penile fillers. The organizers selected his lecture on inflatable penile surgery for the instructional course that required separate registration and Dr. Sevann Helo, Professor of Urology at the Mayo Clinic, chaired this session. Dr. Helo previously visited South Korea in last April to participate in the KSSMA (Korean Society for Sexual Medicine and Andrology) inflatable penile prosthesis cadaver lab. During her visit, she got to know about Dr. Park’s out-patient penile implant management which is quite different from the US
In the United States, penile implant is managed in a surgery center or in-patient manner. However, Dr. Park manages his penile implant patient with out-patient setting which could give an insight to US colleagues in terms of efficacy, efficiency and patient’s accessibility. Also there is a growing interest in genital cosmetics & phalloplasty in US has also fueled debate surrounding these procedures. As a result, experts increasingly discuss the benefits and limitations of various techniques, including fillers and silicone implants. SMSNA’s invitation to Dr. Park for the panel reflects this ongoing trend
